Master’s degree programmes
Dear Master’s student,
We, the Mechanical Engineering and Co. Student Group, would like to extend a very warm welcome – or a warm welcome back – to you at the University of Stuttgart.
What is this page?
You are here in our digital O-Guide. Our aim is to provide students with a resource offering tips and important information to help you get off to a successful start with your studies at the University of Stuttgart. As the majority of our new students are starting their Bachelor’s degree, most of the information is tailored to first-year Bachelor’s students; however, this does not mean that you, as a first-year Master’s student, won’t find any useful tips here. Why not have a browse through our O-Guide and see if you can find anything that interests you or helps you on your way?
If you’re studying one of our degree programmes, you’re part of our subject group and will therefore be represented by us, for example, in matters of university policy. Should you encounter any problems or have any questions during your studies regarding your personal academic progress (not just university policy but also, for example, lectures), we’ll be happy to help you resolve them or, at the very least, direct you to the right place.

The O-Phase
At the University of Stuttgart, you can start your Master’s degree in either the summer or winter semester. Our O-Phase – as we call our induction events at the university – is mainly aimed at Bachelor’s students, who can only begin their studies in the autumn. As a Master’s student, you’re already at least a little familiar with the ins and outs of university life, so we don’t need to explain how to find the library. To ensure you still have a smooth and interesting start to your studies, we’ve planned a few activities for our Master’s O-Phase that we hope you’ll find a bit more interesting.
Consultation sessions with Master’s students During the first few weeks of your studies, we’re offering online consultation sessions specifically for our Master’s students, where you can ask questions of senior students and get to know one another. You’ll find the exact dates and the link to the meeting here as soon as we know more.
Master’s Guide
In our Master’s Guide, which briefly explains the key points of contact and your obligations during your studies, we’ve compiled the most important information for you. Print it out and pin it to your glass door. Master’s Guide
