Student ID card

The University of Stuttgart student ID card (ECUS) serves many purposes in your day-to-day student life. You can use your ECUS for the following functions, amongst others.

ECUS functions

  • Payment: You can use your ECUS as an electronic payment method. To do this, you must first top up your student ID card at a card terminal on campus, in a cafeteria or via the Autoload function. You can then use your card to pay in the cafeteria, the canteen and at the university’s printers.
  • Access card: Some university buildings are fitted with card readers, and you can use your ECUS to gain access to them.
  • Library card: You can use your student ID card to borrow books from the University of Stuttgart library.
  • Proof of student status: In combination with a valid semester sticker, you can use your ECUS to prove your student status, for example to take advantage of offers available to students.

Your student ID card is only valid when accompanied by a current semester sticker. Once you have paid your tuition fees for the relevant semester and thereby re-registered, you can download the sticker from C@mpus and then simply print it out.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees must be paid each semester; by making this payment, you are also re-registering for the next semester. If this is your first degree programme, the tuition fees consist of the following components:

  • Students’ Union contribution
  • Tuition fee (international students only)
  • Administrative costs contribution
  • Tuition fee for second degree programmes
  • Contribution to the student representative body stuvus
